Privacy Policy

PL8 PEEK lets you look up Canadian vehicle details from a licence plate. This policy explains what we collect, why, and who else sees it. It is written to be read, not to be impenetrable.

What we collect

Data	Why
Email address	To create your account, sign you in, and send password resets.
Plate searches — the plate, the province, and when you searched	To show your recent searches, and so a repeat lookup can be served without charging you again.
Vehicle details returned — VIN, make, model, year and specifications	Cached so the same plate does not have to be fetched from our data provider twice.
Purchase records — which product, which store, the store's transaction id	To credit your account, to prevent a purchase being applied twice, and to handle refunds.
Credit balance and plan	To know how many lookups you have left.

Your password is never visible to us. It is hashed by our authentication provider and we only ever receive the result of a sign-in attempt.

What we do not collect

• No location data.
• No contacts, photos, or camera access.
• No advertising identifiers, and no third-party analytics or tracking software of any kind.
• No payment card details. Apple and Google process payments; we never see your card.
• No vehicle owner information. A lookup returns the vehicle's own specifications. It does not return the name, address, or any personal detail of whoever owns or drives it, and we have no way to obtain that.

Who else processes your data

We use a small number of services to run the app. Each receives only what it needs:

NHTSA — VIN decoding	The VIN only. No account details.
RevenueCat — purchase handling	Your account identifier and purchase records.
Apple / Google — payments	Handled entirely by them under their own privacy policies.

We do not sell your data, and we do not share it for advertising.

How long we keep it

• Account data and search history — until you delete your account.
• Purchase records — retained after account deletion, but with the link to you removed. We keep them because a refund or a repeated payment notification has to be reconcilable, and because tax rules require records of sales.
• Cached vehicle details — retained, but they are not linked to you once your account is gone. A plate is a property of a vehicle, not of a person.

Deleting your account

You can delete your account at any time from inside the app: Account → Delete Account. This permanently removes your email, your credit balance, and your search history. It cannot be undone, and any unused credits are forfeited — we cannot restore them afterwards.

Your rights

Under Canadian privacy law (PIPEDA), and under the GDPR if you are in the UK or EU, you can ask us for a copy of the personal data we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Deletion is available directly in the app; for anything else, contact us and we will respond within 30 days.

Children

PL8 PEEK is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from them. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we will remove it.

Changes

If this policy changes in a way that materially affects you, we will update the date at the top and notify you in the app before the change takes effect.
